Relationship with Hotel: Alila Ventana Big Sur and Rancho Cielo are developing a relationship where Hyatt colleagues at Alila Ventana Big Sur speak with the Rancho Cielo students about careers in hospitality.  Alila Ventana Big Sur and Rancho Cielo are currently developing an internship project so that the students can gain practical hands-on experience.

NGO mission: Rancho Cielo provides Opportunity Youths with alternative learning in culinary arts to set them up for a career in hospitality.

Grant purpose:
Rancho Cielo’s Drummond Culinary Academy’s (DCA) goal is to train Opportunity Youth from the Monterey County are in a work environment that is conducive to learning, where they fee challenged, respected, and accountable. At the end of the program, Rancho Cielo endeavors to have prepared students to become qualified to work in restaurants or hotels.

The 10-month program offers a nationally recognized culinary arts curriculum. Students gain work experience in the Academy Dining Room, open to the public on Friday nights, and through the completion of a 200-hour externship, where they work with local restaurants to gain additional employment experience.

The Hyatt Community Grant from the Hyatt Hotels Foundation allowed eight DCA students to meet their externship hours by providing placements at their property, as well as covering transportation and stipend costs.
