Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (SHA)
Relationship with Hotel(s): Grand Hyatt Mumbai has supported youth welfare organization Yuva Parivartan through the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (SHA) for 10 years. The partnership with SHA has expanded across India to drive the country’s efforts to help Hyatt reach its RiseHY program goal of Hyatt hotels hiring 10,000 Opportunity Youth by 2025. Together the hotels and non-profits provide on-the-job training and practical exposure in different hotel operational areas such as housekeeping, culinary, food and beverage service, and front office to the students enrolled in the program. The students finish the program with a six-month training to make them market ready and employable.
NGO mission: The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance brings together engaged hospitality companies with the mission to drive collaborative action and use the collective force of the industry to deliver impact locally and on a global scale.
Grant purpose: With an estimated 500 million youth accounting for 50 percent of the population, India has one of the largest populations of young people in the world. However, decent work opportunities are limited, especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. The COVID pandemic has only added to the plight of India’s Opportunity Youth. This impacts the lives of young people and their families and is likely to widen the inequality gap.
Following the successful expansion of the India program in 2022, where Hyatt helped SHA scale the program to 10 cities, in 2023 SHA will expand the program to reach 15 total cities in India. In partnership with Yuva Parivartan (SHA’s longstanding local not-for-profit implementation partner in India), SHA will identify Opportunity Youth, build their skills and experience and start their formal employment journey.
The training funded by the Hyatt Community Grant from Hyatt is expected to reach 240 Opportunity Youth, who will gain vital skills and experience that will help them increase employment opportunities.
