Relationship with Hotel: For two years, Grand Hyatt Bali has worked with Sumba Hospitality to provide work experience for Sumbanese youth participating in Sumba’s programming. In addition, the property has fundraised, hosted events and served as board members for the non-profit.
NGO mission: Sumba Hospitality Foundation mission is to provide young Sumbanese people with the skills they need to create employment opportunities on the island.
Grant purpose: At the end of Sumba Hospitality’s on-campus programming, each student is required to complete a six-month industry internship in Sumba or Bali at a luxury property. During the internship students put into practice the skills they learned in the classroom and develop their operational skills. The Hyatt Community Grant funded by Hyatt provided 60 Opportunity Youth from Sumba and Bali in Indonesia with financial assistance during the six-month hospitality internship portion of their training.
