Eastside Academy
Relationship with Hotel: For six years Hyatt Regency Bellevue has worked with Eastside Academy. In that time, the academy has provided weekly meals to both of Eastside Academy’s residential homes, offered career information sessions to their students and supported the school’s fundraising initiatives.
NGO mission: Eastside Academy’s mission is to inspire change in the lives of youth through high school education, counseling, recovery, housing, and life-skills programs.
Grant purpose: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, enrollment in the state of Washington’s public schools has seen a historic decline.* This fact, combined with alarming trends in youth mental health, is leading to a growing urgency around finding and serving disengaged youth. Eastside Academy offers a solution for Opportunity Youth. Through education and comprehensive services, they can help these youth remain or re-engage in school, receive treatment and move on to careers and/or higher education.
One hundred percent of Eastside Academy students receive some level of financial assistance to attend the school, but the school ensures that finances are never a barrier to attendance. The Hyatt Hotels Foundation grant was used to support these efforts providing scholarships to youth attending Eastside Academy.
During their time at Eastside Academy, students are made aware of the career opportunities available to them in the hospitality sector, opening their eyes to varied and rewarding careers paths available in the industry.
