Relationship with Hotel: For eight years, Hyatt Regency Hua Hin & The Barai Spa have been working with IECD and Tak Border Children Assistance Foundation’s (IECD’s local charitable partner) Hospitality Catering Training Center by providing internships to program participants. The hotel hosts the program’s study trip, where students and their teachers learn more about hotel operations and in 2022 hired two students as part of the hotel’s RiseHY employment efforts.
NGO mission: IECD’s mission is to give their beneficiaries the knowledge that they need to improve their living conditions, become responsible citizens and to contribute to a more equitable society.
Grant purpose: The Hospitality and Catering Training Centre (HCTC) is a vocational school based in Mae Sot, Thailand, on the border with Myanmar. The school provides education to young adults from under-resourced rural communities along the Thai-Myanmar border.
European Institute of Cooperation and Development (IECD) and its local partner, the Tak Border Child Assistance Foundation (TBCAF) started the project in 2009 to fill the gap in educational opportunities accessible to under-resourced youth. Its mission is to promote their social and professional integration in the Thai society.
Every year the HCTC welcomes 60 to 65 border students and trains them for two years in the five main areas of hospitality and catering: kitchen, bakery, service, housekeeping, and front office. Each student completes a six-month internship.
The Hyatt Community Grant from Hyatt will be used to fund for 15 students attending the HCTC.
