Relationship with Hotel: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, STL Youth Jobs and Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch have partnered together to create a recruitment pipeline for Opportunity Youth and diverse candidates for job openings at the property.
NGO mission: STL Youth Jobs’ mission is to bridge the divide between their region’s youth and the growing skills gap in the region’s workforce.
Grant purpose: STL Youth Jobs’ youth employment programs aim to address several needs that the St. Louis region faces:
- Need for employees with basic work skills
- Need to increase the percentage of youth employed
- Need to level the playing field for under-resourced youth when it comes to access to resources that support attaining gainful employment
STL Youth Jobs provides a natural progression of activities and experiences to support youth within their career development and offers developmentally appropriate work experiences that enable jobseekers to develop the key workplace skills and experiences required to accommodate employer needs.
Funding from the Hyatt Community Grant from the Hyatt Hotels Foundation supported about 500 under-resourced youth to participate in one of STL Youth Jobs summer programs: Discover You (14-15), Summer Work Experience (16-24) and Career Accelerator Pathway (18-24). Based on best practice, these comprehensive program models include ongoing support from a job coach, personalized career assessment, critical training and skill building to prepare youth for the workforce, financial education, paid work experience and additional training and professional development workshops.
