Supporting the Borel slums complex through inclusion
Associação Projeto Roda Viva is a NGO that supports the Borel slums complex. Its aim is to guarantee the rights and social inclusion of children, teenagers, and adults in social vulnerability through education and the development of their potentialities.
In a long relationship (since the hotel’s pre-opening phase), Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro helps the Borel community through a bakery constructed and funded by the hotel. Not only have courses been provided at the bakery, but also bread is made daily to feed 100 children that attend the cultural center for activities. Part of the baked bread is also sold to the community to help generate income for the NGO.
The 2018 Hyatt Community Grant will support the return of bakery courses, help to professionalize 48 new bakers during next year and allow them to be considered for job opportunities, including the hospitality industry, one of Rio’s most important economic bases.
