Sustainable Hospitality Alliance

Relationship with Hotel(s): Hyatt Properties of India have worked with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (formerly known as Youth Career Initiative) and their local partner Yuva Parivartan since 2012. Hyatt Properties of India support Yuva Parivartan by providing on-the-job training and practical exposure in different hotel operational areas such as housekeeping, culinary, food and beverage, and front office to students enrolled in the program.

NGO mission: The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance brings together engaged hospitality companies with the mission to drive collaborative action and use the collective force of the industry to deliver impact locally and on a global scale.

Grant purpose:
With an estimated 500 million youth accounting for 50% of the population, India has one of the largest populations of young people in the world. However, work opportunities are limited, especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. The COVID-19 pandemic has only added to the plight of India’s Opportunity Youth. This impacts the lives of young people and their families and is likely to widen the inequality gap.

The Hyatt Community Grant will allow SHA to scale their successful soft skills for hospitality curriculum to reach more Opportunity Youth in India. In partnership with Yuva Parivartan, SHA will identify Opportunity Youth in the 21 Indian cities where urban youth are at the highest risk of falling into poverty. The program will consist of soft skills training, followed by two months of practical training in a hotel or related place of work. After graduation, the students are supported to find employment.

The training is expected to reach 260 Opportunity Youth, who will gain vital skills and experience that will help them secure a stable job and increase employment opportunities.
