Breaking the cycle of poverty that exists in Cambodia
EGBOK (Everything’s Gonna Be OK) enables underprivileged young adults in Cambodia to be self-supporting by providing education, training, and employment opportunities. EGBOK utilizes the growing hospitality industry and booming tourism sector as a sustainable means for young adults to break the cycle of poverty that exists in Cambodia today.
EGBOK’s 12-month Training and Internship program provides the skills and training necessary to connect eager students with employers to help them realize their potential as hospitality professionals so that they can live independently.
Park Hyatt Siem Reap (PHSR) has been supporting EGBOK since 2013 with the partnership taking several different forms such as providing guest speakers for their events (Training Manager and Director of Finance), various training sessions run by the hotel’s managers from culinary to F&B Service, marketing, communications, sales, human resources, front office and spa. The hotel engineering team also comes to the school and student housing to offer and provide repairs and maintenance work to ensure the best possible conditions for the students. There has been a total of 46 volunteers with a combined 2,371 hours (YTD).
PHSR provides 12 internship opportunities per year for students (a key element of EGBOK’s Training and Internship Program) and has employed 14 EGBOK graduates into full-time roles.
PHSR has also supported EGBOK with an annual fundraising event and by selling EGBOK merchandise to hotel guests with 100% of proceeds going towards supporting student program costs. The total donation value is US$2,180 (YTD).
The Hyatt Community Grant will be used to fund seven students through EGBOK’s 2018/19 Training and Internship Program. One hundred percent of students have successfully been placed into full-time jobs in the hospitality industry within a month of graduating, so this grant will have a truly life changing impact on the young adults taking part in the program.
